Dr. Clayton Smith received his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Pre-Medical Studies from the University of Notre Dame in 2014. He went on to earn his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2019. Between his third and fourth years of medical school, Dr. Smith participated in the Medical Research Scholars Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where he developed a machine learning algorithm for detecting prostate cancer on MRI.
Dr. Smith completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles, finishing in June 2024. His research during residency focused on innovative imaging and therapeutic approaches for prostate cancer, including PSMA PET/CT, Lutetium-177-PSMA-617, and MRI-guided radiotherapy. His work was presented at national conferences and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. In recognition of his research, Dr. Smith received the ACRO travel grant to study heavy-ion radiotherapy at the renowned Heidelberg University Ion Therapy Center in Germany.
Throughout his residency, Dr. Smith received extensive training in advanced radiation techniques, including image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), MRI-guided radiotherapy, and brachytherapy.
Dr. Smith joined Radiation Oncology Associates in August 2024. Outside of his clinical practice, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, daughter, and dog. A native of Denver, Colorado, he has a deep love for mountain activities such as skiing and hiking.
